Have You Ever Experienced the Beauty of Yosemite National Park when the Dogwoods are in Bloom? Our Yosemite spring photography workshop brings you to Yosemite during a beautiful time of year for flowing waterfalls and blooming dogwoods.

Yosemite Valley is a place of awakenings in spring. The high snows have melted, filling the waterfalls to capacity.

Our team of two highly experienced professional landscape photographers will show you the expansive and accessible landscape of the amazing Yosemite Valley in Spring and teach you how to envision and create memorable images from this workshop.

You’ll learn how to get that amazing landscape image from the perfect locations when the light is optimal! There’s nothing like that feeling of knowing you’ve created that trophy image!

Special Notice Regarding Lodging in Yosemite Valley

You must secure your accommodations well in advance for this photography workshop if you want to stay in the valley and avoid driving in each day. The Spring season can be busy in Yosemite! We suggest staying in Half Dome Village located near our workshop location in the valley. Lodging is not included in the price of the workshop.

Yosemite Photography Workshop

During the spring in Yosemite, Bridal Veil and Yosemite Falls come crashing down, with many others breaking free of winter’s cold embrace. Wildlife is abundant, along with profusely blooming dogwood trees and fruit tree blossoms from early valley settlers. Our Yosemite photography workshop will give you the opportunity to capture great images and learn about off the tourist route locations to shoot with the help of two professional photographers.

This photography expedition offers unique valley compositions only found here this time year. Explore with us and learn to see and capture the valley in a unique and personal way not found elsewhere…

Day one 6pm: Orientation will include a general overview of the workshop before starting out on our adventure. We will set up an optional sunset shot this evening as a pre-workshop shoot for those that can make it.

We will meet and discuss what you want to focus on for the workshop?  Do you want to focus on telling the story of the trip, do you want to shoot black and white, do you want to work with shadows or master HDR?  We will help you to decide where you want to go with your creativity on this workshop.

Monday, April 29, 2019
We will meet at 8:00 A.M. and will proceed to walk the meadow trials, seeking out reflections, dogwood blooms, and vistas of distant Yosemite Falls. We’ll seek out the early morning light as it resonates off the meadows.

We will break at noon and rest up for our next afternoon photo shoot. In the afternoon, we will meet once again and caravan to our sunset location.  We will meet afterward in the Mountain View Room Bar and discuss the day’s shooting and review and discuss images.

Tuesday, April 30, 2019
We will meet at 8:00 A.M. and gather again at our new rally point, We will spend the morning working compositions with the some of Yosemite’s most beautiful waterfalls as a backdrop.

Afterwards, we’ll caravan throughout the valley and closely explore various locations. We will be stopping frequently, venturing out to various waterfalls and water locations throughout the morning. Then at 4:00 P.M., We will gather again to prepare for our sunset shoot.  Image review and discussion afterwards in the Yosemite Lodge Mountain Room.

Wednesday, May 1, 2019
This is our last morning. We’ll explore elements of macro photography and venture out in the surrounding areas of Yosemite Village.  This area of the valley remains in the shadows most of the day and is great for macro compositions.  After that, we will walk down the river trail to shoot water compositions along the way. We will wrap things up at noon.

Suggested Camera Gear List

– Digital SLR or Mirrorless Camera
– Wide-angle and Telephoto lenses are essential and whatever lenses you like (16mm-200mm recommended, Fast aperture lenses recommended for night photography workshops 1.4 to 2.8)
– Memory cards. (Enough to meet your shooting demands)
– A Hot shoe bubble level. (unless your camera has this option built-in)
– A Neutral Density Filter, to fit your widest lens. (3 stop, ND8 or Variable)
– A Polarizer filter.
– At least 3 fully charged batteries.
– A Shutter cable release, if you don’t use live view.
– A good sturdy tripod that you can lower to the ground if necessary.( Adjustable Ball head preferred)
– A small headlamp with fresh batteries
– A small collapsible cheap umbrella (Winter)
– A couple of small and large Zip-Loc bags
– A compact digital camera (Just for back-up)
